How far from a Yellow Line station is too far? Electronic City Phase 1 vs Phase 2
Direct answer: Treat 800 m of actual walking as the outer limit. The national TOD policy puts a station's influence zone at 500-800 m. In Electronic City, Phase 1 leans on Electronic City station, and Phase 2 on Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara and Huskur Road. Walk the route yourself.
Verify with your lawyer: the RERA registration, approvals, khata and Encumbrance Certificate of any project you shortlist.
The Yellow Line runs from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, over 19 km with 16 stations, and was inaugurated on 10 August 2025. Several of those stations are in and around Electronic City. Being "near the metro" only helps if you can walk to it, so this page starts with the distance.
What does official policy say is walking distance?
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' National Transit Oriented Development Policy defines a station's influence zone as the area within walking distance, "generally up to a radius of nearly 500-800m". Where stations are less than 1 km apart, it uses a band of about 500 m either side of the line, within a 10-12 minute walk.
So a useful rule: under 500 m of walking is close, 500-800 m is workable, and beyond 800 m you should plan for a feeder ride.
| Walk to station | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Under 500 m | A short walk, about 5-7 minutes. Metro can be your daily default. |
| 500-800 m | Inside the national TOD walking zone, about 10-12 minutes. Fine in good weather if the footpath is safe. |
| Over 800 m | Outside the policy's walking zone. Expect an auto, cab, feeder bus or your own vehicle for the last leg. |
Which stations serve Phase 1 and Phase 2?
Station names below are as shown on the BMRCL network. Phase boundaries aren't drawn the same way by every map, so treat these as starting points.
- Phase 1: Electronic City station on Hosur Road is the main one. Hosa Road and Beratena Agrahara are to the north.
- Phase 2: Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara and Huskur Road are the closest. Biocon Hebbagodi and Delta Electronics Bommasandra are further south.
In our check of OpenStreetMap place points, the "Electronics City Phase 1" marker sits about 775 m in a straight line from Electronic City station. The Phase 2 markers sit about 570-625 m from Huskur Road and Konappana Agrahara stations. Homes deeper inside either phase will be further than that.
Why the map distance misleads
- Hosur Road is the barrier. The stations run along it. Homes on the other side need a safe crossing, which can add a long detour.
- Campus walls. Large tech campuses and gated layouts block direct paths.
- Footpaths. A 600 m walk with no footpath feels longer than 900 m on a good one.
- Station exits. Ask which exit you would use. The distance is to the gate, not the pin on the map.
How to test the walk
Walk from the project gate to the station exit on a weekday at about 8:30 AM, and again after dark. Time it, and note crossings and footpath gaps. Then do it in the rain if you can. If the honest answer is "I would take an auto", count the flat as a feeder-ride flat.
For the commute beyond the station, see Electronic City with an ORR office. For the khata side, see e-Khata in Phase 1.
Checklist for a Yellow Line home in Electronic City
- Name the nearest station on foot, not on the map.
- Walk it and time it at peak hour and after dark.
- Note the Hosur Road crossing, if any.
- Check the footpath and lighting on the route.
- If it's over 800 m, plan the feeder ride and its daily time.
- Check RERA, khata, EC and OC as you would anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
What walking distance counts as near a metro station?
The National TOD Policy treats 500-800 m from a station as its influence zone, roughly a 10-12 minute walk. Beyond about 800 m of real walking, most people start using a cab, auto or feeder bus for the last leg.
Which Yellow Line station serves Electronic City Phase 1?
Electronic City station on Hosur Road is the one most Phase 1 homes will use. Hosa Road and Beratena Agrahara sit further north. Check which is nearest on foot from your gate, not on a map.
Which Yellow Line stations serve Electronic City Phase 2?
Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara and Huskur Road are the stations closest to Phase 2. Biocon Hebbagodi and the Bommasandra terminal are further south along Hosur Road.
Is straight-line distance to the station enough?
No. Hosur Road, the elevated expressway, gated campuses and missing footpaths can make the real walk much longer than the map line. Walk it at peak hour and time it.
What if the flat is 1.5 km from the station?
Then you are relying on a feeder bus, auto or your own vehicle for every trip. Price that into your daily routine, and don't treat the flat as walkable to the metro.
