Buying beyond Silk Institute on the promise of a Harohalli metro extension: is it safe?

Direct answer: No. Don't buy past Silk Institute on a promise that the metro will reach Harohalli. The Green Line still ends at Silk Institute. The Harohalli extension is a feasibility study, not a sanctioned line. Judge the flat on this week's drive and on the papers.

Ask your lawyer: before any token, read the conversion order, the layout sanction, the khata and the encumbrance certificate from Kaveri. A metro sentence in a brochure is none of those. Your CA still starts from the price on the deed and the guidance value. A study does not change that sum.

The line you can board

On 14 January 2021 the Press Information Bureau recorded the inauguration of the Green Line's southern extension, Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute. PIB called it a 6 km elevated line, with stations at Konanakunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajarahalli, Thalaghattapura and Silk Institute. The Times of India said regular trains would start at 7 am the next morning, 15 January 2021. On 1 November 2026, BMRCL's English site showed no construction notice beyond Silk Institute.

Where the Harohalli study stands

The Hindu reported on 23 March 2025 that BMRCL was studying eight corridors, including Silk Institute to Harohalli at 24 km. Officials called the feasibility study step one. On 2 October 2026, TV9 Kannada said the study was with BMRCL, still about 24 km, to go to the state in late October or early November, and a detailed project report only if the state agrees. A study can become a project later. It is not a reason to pay more this month.

Checks before you pay

  • Name the open station. Past Silk Institute, the last train stop is behind you.
  • Ask which paper the metro line is printed on. Feasibility, a detailed project report, a Cabinet decision and a tender are different documents.
  • Drive it on a weekday. Time the gate to Silk Institute in the morning, and again after dark.
  • Read the land file. On 8 January 2026 The New Indian Express reported a Upa Lokayukta case over 63 layouts inside Kanakapura Planning Authority limits that lacked sanction. The case named the chief officer of Harohalli Town Panchayat. A town-panchayat tax receipt is not that authority's order. If the RTC still shows agricultural land, ask for the conversion order.
  • Read the Karnataka RERA page where the project has to be registered, including the latest quarterly update. A RERA number does not approve a metro line.

The mistake to avoid

Don't block a flat because a sketch draws a line to Harohalli. Pay for the road you drove and the file you read. Test a price like that on signs a flat is overpriced. Start the other checks with buying a home on Kanakapura Road, and the dated projects with what buyers should track to 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Is the metro coming to Harohalli?

A feasibility study is on record, about 24 km (The Hindu, 23 March 2025; TV9 Kannada, 2 October 2026). On 1 November 2026 we had not found an order to build it, or an opening date.

Is Silk Institute still the last station on this road?

Yes. Regular service started on 15 January 2021. No station beyond it is open.

Should I pay extra for the feasibility report?

No. In March 2025 BMRCL told The Hindu the study is step one, before a detailed project report.

Who sanctions a layout near Harohalli?

Kanakapura Planning Authority. A Harohalli Town Panchayat tax receipt is a different paper. Have your lawyer read the sanction with the conversion order and the encumbrance certificate.
