Did the Hebbal flyover fix traffic? Should I buy a flat on or near Airport Road (Hebbal / Kodigehalli)?
Direct answer: The new loops split traffic that used to merge on the Hebbal flyover. They have not made Airport Road quiet, and a flat near Kodigehalli still needs its own peak-hour drive.
BDA's loop for vehicles from KR Puram towards the city was inaugurated on 18 August 2025. The Hindu described a 700 metre stretch, added because the older ramp was too narrow for airport traffic and KR Puram traffic to merge. A second loop, for airport and north Bengaluru traffic, was inaugurated on 1 January 2026.
On 7 January a morning-peak Times of India two-wheeler ride covered about a kilometre from Esteem Mall to the Hebbal traffic police station in about 2 minutes 15 seconds, then reached the Mehkri Circle underpass at 10.47 am and MG Road at about 11.05 am. Police told the paper that airport, Kodigehalli service-road and KR Puram traffic now use separate lanes. On 27 January the airport-bound side crawled again after unfinished asphalting.
What should you check?
- Which side of the junction the flat faces. The Esteem Mall and Kodigehalli service road, the airport carriageway and the KR Puram loop are different streams. Name the road you see from the balcony.
- Floor and facing. A bedroom level with the flyover deck takes tyre noise that an inner-court flat does not. The Noise Pollution Rules, 2000 limit a residential area to 55 dB(A) by day (6 am to 10 pm) and 45 dB(A) at night. We found no public reading for this junction. Listening with the windows shut, then open, is the same check we use for flats along the ORR.
- The hour you travel. Drive to work and back on a weekday, and continue past Mehkri Circle or Ganganagar if that is your route. Time saved on the flyover can vanish in the next kilometre.
- Metro that is not open yet. BMRCL's Phase 2B report lists elevated stations at Hebbal and Kodigehalli. Its parking policy still classes the 38.44 km KR Puram to airport line as under construction. On 22 October 2026 the stated aim was trains from Hebbal to the airport by October or November 2027. KR Puram to Hebbal was already called a year late. Use the bus or the road until a train is running.
- The papers for this tower. Match the tower on the Karnataka RERA project page, and ask for the occupancy certificate if people already live there.
One mistake to avoid
Don't buy off a headline that the flyover is sorted, or a walk time to a station that is not open. The deputy chief minister said the second loop had relieved congestion. Weeks later a newspaper ride still lost time after the flyover.
Rates, water and flood for the wider pocket are in our Hebbal guide. This page does not repeat them.
Frequently asked questions
Did the Hebbal flyover fix traffic?
It split the merge. The road after the flyover still jams, including the airport side when it is dug up. Time your own trip.
Can I board a metro at Hebbal or Kodigehalli?
Not yet. Hebbal and Kodigehalli are elevated stations on Phase 2B, and that line was still under construction at the 22 October 2026 review.
How loud is a flat facing Airport Road?
The residential limit is 55 dB(A) from 6 am to 10 pm and 45 dB(A) at night. We found no public reading for one tower here. Visit after 10 pm and listen in the bedroom.
